Stichting de Vrolijkheid (2020 - 2022)
In October 2020, As of Nū organized a four-part workshop series at the request of Stichting de Vrolijkheid in Almere. The foundation develops art projects with children and teens in Dutch Asylum Seeker Centres (AZCs). This series was part of the Beeld//Formers program, which engaged teens aged 15–25.
Co-crated trend book
Loosely based on the As of Nu wardrobe methodology, participants analyzed and reinterpreted fashion trends. They explored their own trend landscapes using social media as a source, letting algorithms guide them toward trends they found appealing. Once identified, these trends were compared with imagery from 1990s fashion magazines. The resulting visuals were compiled into a trend board, prompting reflection on how “new” trends compare to older ones, and whether anything truly changes. Participants responded to the system of trend logic by taking creative action: designing garments based on the trend reports they had created themselves. The outcome was a co-created trend book.

Expo at the Nieuwe Bibliotheek Almere
Following the success of the Almere series, a second series took place in 2021 in collaboration with the Nieuwe Bibliotheek Almere. New participants repeated the process, while results from the first series were exhibited throughout the summer.
Other Fashion Workshops
In 2022, As of Nu and Stichting de Vrolijkheid expanded the project to AZCs in Heerhugowaard, Apeldoorn, and Katwijk. Fashion and trends remained central, but the workshops focused more on self-expression. Joy, playfulness, and connection were at the heart of these workshops, and offered opportunities to not only develop artistic skills, but also engage in conversations and partake in community building exercises.
